“You won’t just take the boy. Not from Ethan.” “But we’re going to have to.” “It won’t go easy on you. He seemed pleased by that prediction. “Sometimes it doesn’t.” This was a pretty good book! I learned a lot about wilderness…

Decided to read Michael Koryta's Those Who Wish Me Dead after finding out a movie adaptation of the book is in post-production. I found the book entertaining and little insightful. I learned survival techniques and how a forest fire moves…

A relatable yet compelling thriller whose main character (teenager, Jace) witnesses a murder and is hidden away at a wilderness survival camp for his own protection. His protectors and pursuers are equally believable, and the book's…

A fast-moving quick read, as a thriller should be. It starts off somewhat like a YA novel. Entirely plot-driven and the scenario (a teenage boy being pursued by two relentless professional killers) is certainly compelling. Extra points for…

Fast paced and suspenseful. Would highly recommend to "mystery" readers.

A witness to a murder is hidden in a wilderness survival program while being pursued by 2 contract killer brothers. While not Koryta's best it sustains enough momentun to keep the reader interested. The plot is a little predictable and the…

Read my first book, Rise the Dark 2016, by this author two weeks ago and liked it very much. While one of the main characters in this mystery thriller was a troubled young thirteen year old boy, the rest were grown ups, either friends or…

This is the first of Michael Koryta's books I've read and couldn't put it down. Good characters with a few twists in the story to keep you interested. I'll definitely read a few more.

Though I liked Koryta's "The Ridge" this one was too melodramatic for me.

I love this author!!! This is the second book of his I have read and so anxious to read all of his books. I can hardly put it down (and I don't say that about many books). It is suspenseful, keeping me 'on the edge of my seat.' Give…

This book is amazing! I sat down to read it on Monday night and if not for work would have had it finished the next day! The first three pages were a little slow but once the action started I was on the edge of my seat until the end.…

Self disclaimer: not a fan of authors who use children and teens as the; premise, hero, heroine or placing them in an adult protagonist role as a crime solver, unless it's Nancy Drew, Andy Hardy, etc. That being said Koryta's tale does a…

13 year old boy sees something he shouldn't have and is forced to flee into the woods, killers hot on his trail. Kortya takes Cormac McCarthy-esque villains almost to the point of caricature, and there are lots of 'yeah but' moments when…

There are lots of anomalies in this story. I was inclined to quit 1/3 through but I wanted to see how some were explained. I thought the explanations were even more far fetched.

Well plotted and suspenseful with a wilderness survival theme. If you like Nevada Barr books you will like this book.
