The segment about Paleolithic flutes is fascinating.

Fantastic, about a place I may never see but would love to! Very earliest cave paintings, in Europe; The one of the horse 💕 is so amazing. Ancient history, French countryside, science/anthropology & a great story. Very down to earth.…

Herzog in particular and German films generally move with glacial slowness, appropriately for the Chauvet Cave. It would tax patience to spend 90 minutes on a small number of works if they didn’t reach such incredible distance, from a…

There are no repeated segments. Can fast forward through subject YOU don't find interesting, but you will miss out. Near ending again shows paintings more closely and without further comment. These paintings are not stick…

If you have seen Elisabeth Daynes's astonishing sculptures of Neanderthals you will be prepared for the designs on the walls of this cave. Yes, it goes on too long: sixty minutes would have been enough. But the pictures will haunt you for…

This movie was interesting; the caves are phenomenal, they really appear to have just been created. As I recall, one of the explorers mentions that they began to expect the artist to appear at any time. It does go on a little long; you…

A very slow and meditative film of the oldest and best preserved caves with painting in them. Odd and uncanny music accompanies the images. The bonus film is just about the music, in particular the cellist - a veritable Miles Davis (of the…

If you've ever wondered what a seemingly straightforward documentary about cave paintings would be like in the hands of an artistic director, wonder no more. I gave Cave the rating I did because I happen to like Werner Herzog's glum style…

Typical Werner Herzog style. Arsty (=tedious), over dramatic and reflective for no value-added reason. The caves were interesting in themselves despite Werner's ponderous style. The 90 minute movie felt like three hours. Stop talking…

Fascinating.

I agree with a lot of the other comments. It was neat to see the cave paintings and some interviews. But it was quite redundant (Yup, I've seen those horses about 10 times already.) Also, the music was distracting, and the narrative was…

a beautifully filmed and narrated doco from Werner Herzog of a cave of art work, discovered in Southern France in 1994, more than 30,000 years old. Spellbinding it is, informative in a subtle way and inspiring.

While the subject matter of 'Cave of Forgotten Dreams' sounds like a great idea for a documentary, this film falls short in the same manner that another recent 3D documentary 'PINA' did - its way too long and has a painfully slow delivery…

Painful to watch? NONSENSE. It was a thorough insight into the lives of the earliest Europeans.

This was extremely painful to watch - I mean, I love odd, quirky things, but this has little to do with the actual paintings and more to do with IMAGINING what those people must've been like, with a whole lot of whirling images and music. …

Overdone and way too drawn out. Man, did this film have some hype surrounding it and it so did not warrant it. So glad I didn't waste my $$ to see it in the theater! Had the BBC covered these cave paintings, it would have been way better.…

The paintings are wonderful, but the music is irritating and the directing is overblown.

I enjoyed this film and it had no trouble holding my interest, but in classic Werner Herzog fashion, it is somewhat overblown. A lot of time is spent on artsy shots of the paintings set to music. I believe we see sweeping shots of 4 horses…

The modeling technique is surprisingly sophisticated. If the paintings are really authentic, as one must suppose at this point, the primitive painters were more skilled than their successors until recent centuries. What does that say about…

This is not a slick Hollywood production. It is fascinating and frustrating to watch. Your kids likely will not sit through it. The first third is good but then it takes great side trips in to pure cheese. It's a shame that the sheer…

32,000 years ago, man started drawing on the walls of Chauvet Cave in France. Then, some thousands of years later, the cave was closed up by a landslide. This cave contains the oldest drawings drawn by man that have been discovered. And…

Fabulous visuals of our artistic heritage. This is the final cave described in Jean Auel's Land of the Painted Caves.

Haunting, beautiful documentary giving the viewer a chance to connect with the past and wonder about the people who created such striking art thousands of years in the past.
