"When 13-year-old Jace Wilson witnesses a brutal murder, he's plunged into a new life, issued a false identity and hidden in a wilderness skills program for troubled teens. The plan is to get Jace off the grid while police find the two killers. The result is the start of a nightmare. The killers, known as the Blackwell Brothers, are slaughtering anyone who gets in their way in a methodical quest to reach him. Now all that remains between them and the boy are Ethan and Allison Serbin, who run the wilderness survival program; Hannah Faber, who occupies a lonely fire lookout tower; and endless miles of desolate Montana mountains. The clock is ticking, the mountains are burning, and those who wish Jace Wilson dead are no longer far behind" -- from publisher's web site

Had to read this book in one day. Good job of keeping me intrigued. Enjoyed the setting, the survival info provided by several different characters that I hadn't known before. A number of unexpected twists and turns right to the end. Very satisfying read on a cold, windy day. Reminds me a lot of Craig Johnson and Nevada Barr.

very good book, some real twists in the story that you don't see coming!

13 year old boy sees something he shouldn't have and is forced to flee into the woods, killers hot on his trail. Kortya takes Cormac McCarthy-esque villains almost to the point of caricature, and there are lots of 'yeah but' moments when you want to argue with the author; but this page-turning story is saved by the details of wilderness survival and the description of the mountain setting.

There are lots of anomalies in this story. I was inclined to quit 1/3 through but I wanted to see how some were explained. I thought the explanations were even more far fetched.

Well plotted and suspenseful with a wilderness survival theme. If you like Nevada Barr books you will like this book.

Intense, quick read with good character development. I was pleased that this story had a different setting than any of the other books I've read recently. Lots of wilderness and survival tactics and knowledge that at first I skimmed over but then realized I needed to know in order to understand the plot. Fast, thrilling read that I enjoyed!

A teen witnesses a murder and must trek through the wilderness of Montana to escape the perpretrators. Luckilly, there are others who help him elude those who are pursuing him, as well as the wild fires that are sweeping through the mountains.
