It is flawed in that Derek Jacobi is unbearable in the title role—yes, that is a flaw. But the other casting, Sian Phillips, John Hurt, Patrick Stewart, all the villains and most of the good guys, words fail me my lords. Even Brian Blessed as Augustus makes sense in a way. There is an interesting bonus feature about the abandoned film epic starring Charles Lawton—after watching it it’s hard to imagine anyone else as Claudius.
