Now in its twenty-seventh edition, the Codex covers it all: the history and the laws of our world; how to identify, interact with, and if necessary, kill that worlds many colorful denizens; which end of the stele is the end you write with. No more will your attempt to fight off rogue vampires and warlocks be slowed by the need to answer endless questions from your new recruits: What is a Pyxis? Why dont we use guns? If I cant see a warlocks mark, is there a polite way to ask him where it is? Where do we get all our holy water? Geography, History, Magic, and Zoology textbook all rolled into one, the Codex is here to help new Shadowhunters navigate the beautiful, often brutal world that we inhabit.
The Clave is pleased to announce the newest edition of the Nephilims oldest and most famous training manual: the Shadowhunters Codex. Since the thirteenth century, the Codex has been the young Shadowhunters best friend. When youre being swarmed by demons it can be easy to forget the finer points of obscure demon languages or the fastest way to stop an attack of Raum demons. With the Codex by your side, you never have to worry.

This book gives you all the fine details that you can miss some times. The notes, answers and drawing just pump it up a little and make it more personal.

This incredibly massive book, or so you can call it, is almost like an encyclopedia of sorts, Here, readers can be either the extreme fans, the curious soul, or anywhere in between. Obviously, as any codex or encyclopedia would, it provides both information, about the Down world and Shadowhunter History, that are known or not known to many. I knew about the Angel Raziel, and how he rose from the lake and created shadowhunters and whatnot. However, this textbook gave me more insight as to what happened, more precisely, and with pictures! For a picture is worth a thousand words, as we all know. The evolution of demon hunting beings is deeper delved into, and our dear author choses to show us the backstage of all the fighting and captivating world. However, I do warn those that this is very heavy material, and readers must be aware they may be overwhelmed or bored a bit, at times. 4.5/5 - @Siri of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

Didn't enjoy too much "extra" stuff and notes and things I just couldn't get into.

This gives me a little more of Clary, Jace and Simon. and It answered a couple questions. But the book itself is boring.

If their notes weren't there, this wouldn't have been as interesting. I really liked how much we learned about the shadowhunter world though!

This would have been kinda dry without the "notes" by Clary, Simon and Jace, and the "sketches" by Clary. Those were the best parts. If you're really into the series, you'll want to read this. If not, you may not care that much.

Really good. Don't read it if you haven't read at least 'The Mortal Instruments'. Some of the information is inconstant with what the books say (like the sections about Downworlders) but since this is to be from a Shadowhunter perspective it makes sense. The comments written by Clary, Simon and Jace are really funny and make the book a lot more fun.
