This one was a bit of a let-down after the first book, but it was still enjoyable. Harper's behavior was frustrating to read through. Admittedly, this is all just adding to the tension of the story…but it wasn’t resolved at the end! Which is, of course, why I want to read the next one. The plot felt stinted and contrived at times, rather than flowing naturally through a logical chain of events. All of the breakups and get-togethers were frustrating. I think I liked the characters less than I did before, which is sad. I’m interested to see if things pull together in the last book.
This was not at ALL as good as Rebel Belle. I was very dissapointed.
You know how the second book in the series is usually not as good as the first one? This is the *classic* example.
Did the first book need a sequel? Yes.
Did this book do anything to help the plot of the first? No.
It was a nice, light read, but did nothing really to further the main plot. Except now (SPOILER) Harper has broken up again. Yippee.
It's honestly too much romantic drama and I didn't really feel like the conflict between Paladin/Oracle and gf/bf should have been such a big deal. Honestly if anything, it would have strengthened their bond, because we should've asked Saylor if any of the Oracles ever dated their Paladins!!
Miss Mayhem is a
(mostly) enjoyable read. However it had a lot of flaws. The characters made a lot of really stupid decisions that just did not make sense and to many easily solved problems. All in all it was a letdown after Rebel Belle. But not that that much of a let down, I am still looking forward to the last book in the Rebel Belle series.
I really hated the ending. There are books that do not end happily, that do not result in your typical fantasy ending, but are much stronger in their characterization and their writing. A disappointment.
A decent book, but the first one was much better. The writer seemed to try to buck norms for her story-line but it seemed confusing and ended very suddenly and inconclusively without a satisfactory wrap of the climax's fallout.
I was disappointed with this sequel to "Rebel Belle." The relationship between Harper and David didn't develop much from the ending of the last book, and seemed to have fallen flat somewhere between the end of "Rebel Belle" and the beginning of "Miss Mayhem." Friends didn't seem much like friends, there was a lot of build-up for a conclusion that didn't quite seem to match, and a lot of the drama just seemed to... I don't know -- fizzle out?
The ending seemed inconclusive, by which I mean that I couldn't tell if there was going to be a sequel or not. The end might have been an end... or it might have been a lead-in for another book. All in all, somewhat disappointing. Not terrible, just not as good a sequel as I was hoping for.
