Great movie, good acting, many famous movie stars. At the beginning I felt frustrated because this young woman's whole family is wacko and she just hangs in there with the help of her devoted and encouraging grandmother. Really well done. I've never seen a movie like this, very unique. I heard this morning Jennifer Lawrence is worth over a billion dollars, and she's just into her 30's, wow. I guess she picked the right career right?

Although it started out as a rags-to-riches biopic of entrepreneur and former HSN celebrity Joy Mangano, David O. Russell’s screenplay diverged so far from the truth that he opted for an opening dedication which reads, “Inspired by True Stories of Daring Women” instead. What he's produced is a rollicking mishmash of personal drama, colourful daydreams (Joy’s predicaments are mirrored in her TV addict mom's fave soap opera), and sitcom antics which at times stray dangerously close to "Everybody Loves Raymond" territory. His film is definitely more chutzpah fantasy than capitalist reality especially with the central message of “Follow Your Dreams Dammit!” increasing in volume as the tale progresses. But what of it? As 2020 comes to a close it’s nice to lose yourself in a well written story about a headstrong woman coming out ahead thanks to sheer brains and determination (that much, at least, approaches Mangano’s own life). Isabella Rossellini is perfectly cast as her divorced father's latest squeeze, a wealthy Italian widow with more money than common sense while Bradley Cooper does a fine job as a micro-managing QVC Channel executive who gives Joy her first break. Diane Ladd and Virginia Madsen shine as grandma and mother respectively, and look for daytime TV icons Susan Lucci and Donna Mills doing what they do best.

A great tale of woman power. The strength that Joy exercises, when dealing with people (men) that are trying to rip her off or stifle her or who just don't think she is worth a risk, is impressive. I wish I had more women like that in movies when I was younger; it is refreshing and inspirational. Now they did a lot with the film that I had to over look, particularly the first 30 minutes or so. I was ready to give in and switch it off, but my husband encouraged me to stick with it, and sure enough the next scene showed Joy having a break through. They thoroughly illustrate how stuck she is with family or origin issues, ex-husband issues, under paid jobs, etc. So stick with it, there is a good pay off.

I thought this movie was very inspirational and realistic. I liked the fact that the film is based on real women and real stories. I think this is a must watch movie for anyone who needs to be inspired. I would recommend this film for ages fourteen and older. I thought the ending was great however I found that the beginning of the film was a little boring. The reason I liked this movie was because not only is it inspirational with great acting, but I think the movie and ending was very surprising and unpredictable which I love. The main message I took away from this movie is you can achieve anything you set your mind to and when your passionate about something do not give up no matter what obstacles come your way. 3.5 stars

The use of flashbacks, especially in the first half of the film was effective; the plot has a few unexpected twists that keep the film interesting, especially the end which was a bit disappointing since it was just her and a man in room and she made him sign a paper and just like that everything turned out wonderfully. The main character looked way too young and unstressed for the whole film.

Great movie. David O. Russell is a favorite director of mine, he always puts out quality movies like this one. If you have a family you'll know what Jennifer Lawrence is going through in this film. Good stuff.

This movie was pleasantly surprising. It's a slow starter and is somewhat disjointed, but overall, a good story that held my interest. For one, it's semi-biographical and second, it's got an amazing cast of well known actors.

This movie was very good I loved the story very much. About a young girl who puts everyone first before tending to her own needs and when she finally gets the chance to make something happen for herself things do get complicated but she keeps striving forward to make it happen and succeeds. It gave me a little motivation and/or boost you could say and this film is a must see again its very good.

Joy had to fight her way to overcome every objectionable challenge while, heavily in debt. Was interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes of QVC, the mega giant of sales. A surprise ending to an insurmountably struggle. We bought her mop, but I did not like it.. Don't know if mop still on the market.

Hmmm. Not feeling the JOY. I’m still not convinced Jennifer Lawrence is a “great” actress. I’ve never been fond of Robert DeNiro. I liked the idea that Joy fought the law and she won. But that didn’t make the film interesting.

Well acted film about a woman who takes acre of everyone around her at the expense of her own self, desires, dreams, etc.

She pushes her true self down for so many years, then finally reclaims that part of herself, through creating an invention.

Faced with constant blame, disaproval, manipulation, guilt (typical dysfuncional family) she pursues her dream, her life vision, it is what drives her and keeps her alive, she refuses to give up.

As she succeeds in business, she mentors and gives back to those with aspirations.

Motivational, inspiring, uplifting story about life, challenges, being true to yourself and not giving up.
