When former foreign correspondent Lola Wicks heads to Wyoming for a Yellowstone vacation, she comes across a story that hits close to her past. One Wyoming soldier returning from Afghanistan commits suicide, two others spark a near-fatal brawl, and a woman is terrorized. Lola, accompanied by her young daughter, senses a story about whatever happened on the far side of the world that these troops have brought so disastrously home. But she soon realizes that getting the story must take second place to getting herself and her little girl out of Wyoming alive.

An interesting story that gives an insight about the physical and psychological horrors of war. Those who lived through it and those who, with others, survived endured the pain of watching their loved ones suffer.

The third installment in the Lola Wicks mysteries, after "Montana" and "Dakota" although curiously this book is imprinted by a different publisher. Six years after the story in the last book ended, Lola, a veteran Afghanistan reporter, is on a road trip with her five year old (and half-Native) daughter planning on going to the Tetons when during a stopover she is piqued by a local Wyoming story about a platoon that has come home from Afghanistan. One kills himself at the airport, two start a bloody brawl in a bar, and a fourth - a woman - hides an awful secret. Lola can't help but investigate how things could have gone so wrong and what it was about the fog of war that led to this turn of events. Her decision to postpone her vacation and look into the story, much to her daughter's dismay, leads her to asking questions that put both of their lives in jeopardy. As before, the author lets things build up but gets right to the point. This book like the others is quite readable and I was able to finish it in three days. Can't wait for the next one.
