It begins with a child's hunger for love and acceptance and continues through years of withering criticism, perverse expectations, and unfounded competition from a narcissistic father who couldn't tolerate his son's happiness and libertine spirit. In the end, the author unravels a relationship that could never be fixed -- but perhaps didn't need to be.

Funny and touching.

Not everyone is going to see this book the same way.

I think it's a good lesson in accepting people the way they. Parents, children and our other relationships. It's never easy.

I admire Mike for having a sense of humor during some really challenging times such as his father's funeral. There are some laugh out loud moments in this book. Especially when he is dealing with his parents.

For me, the book showed that happiness comes from the inside out. Some people will just never be happy about who you are. The important thing is to be happy and satisfied with yourself.
