Perhaps no band more successfully bridged the gap between smoky, dingy punk clubs and disco ball lit dance floors than Manchester's New Order, who emerged from the ashes of Joy Division. This 2-disc, 32 song compilation is a good introduction to the band, starting with the first New Order/last Joy Division song "Ceremony" and going up to "Turn" from 2005's "Waiting for the Siren's Call." At the same time, I wonder who this collection is for. The serious fan will probably have all these songs and 2 discs may be too much for those who just want the hits. The first disc is much stronger than the second as the band started to lose their way in the 90s and became a watered down version of themselves. The nadir of this period is their dreadful World Cup song "World in Motion." It's also a little annoying that there's the '88 version of "Blue Monday," but not the original and a remix of "Temptation" rather than their version. And where's "Age of Consent?" You'd be better off getting the 2-disc reissues of their seminal 80s albums.
