Since sixteen-year-old Riley Strout lost her mother two years ago, her saving grace has been her quirky little family in the grief support group she joined as a freshman. Jay, Kate, and Noah understand her pain; each lost a loved one, and theyve stuck together in spite of their differences, united by tragedies only they understand.
When Riley thinks she spots her mother shopping in a grocery store, she fears she is suffering some sort of post-traumatic stress. Then Jay and Kate report similar experiences. Only Noah hasnt had some kind of vision, which is perhaps why hes become so skeptical and distant.
When Noah disappears, Riley fears shes lost another loved one. As they frantically search for him, she, Kate, and Jay are drawn into the mystery surrounding a relic that belonged to Jays dead father and contains clues about the afterlife. Riley finds herself wrestling with her feelings for both Noah and Jaywhich have become clear only in Noahs absence. If Riley is to help those she loves, and herself, she must set things right with the one shes lost.

The book features 4 characters which is Riley, Kate, Jay and Noah. Each character has a loved one who has passed away. Such as Riley's mom and Kate's grandma I believe. Jay's dad owns a spiritual pendant in which he has found in a cave a long time ago. Each character has worn the necklace and seen a their dead loved one in the real world. In the story Noah goes missing and the gang reach out to find him. Then go through the mystery on how these events were to happen.

Things that I liked:
I liked how the author created a story on where friends work together to figure out the mystery of the pendant and it can relate to those who have lost a loved one in that way. They also use very figurative language. It is a good book for those who like a mystery.
The characters also have very diverse personalities and views on the world.

Things that can be improved:
However, the story I found was very difficult to follow at a lot of points and a few parts of the story aren't pulled together as well as I would have liked personally. I believe that the story was a little scattered all over the place.

I adore the friendship in this book. It deals with guilt and pushing through the hard times, using friendship and relying on others. There is a cool history, supernatural element as well with a touch of mystery. But truly the realistic and strong friendships are what made me love this book more.
