Ainsley O'Leary is so ready to get marriedshe's even found the engagement ring her boyfriend has stashed away. What she doesn't anticipate is for Eric to blindside her with a tactless breakup he chronicles in a blog, which (of course) goes viral. Devastated and humiliated, Ainsley turns to her half sister, Kate, who's already struggling after the sudden loss of her new husband.
Kate has always been so poised, so self-assured, but Nathan's death shatters everything she thought she knewincluding her husbandand sometimes the people who step up aren't the ones you expect. With seven years and a murky blended-family dynamic between them, Ainsley and Kate have never been overly close, but their shared sorrow dovetails their faltering worlds into one.
Despite the lifetime of history between them, the sisters must learn to put their differences aside and open their hearts to the inevitable imperfection of familyand the possibility of one day finding love again.

I’m working my way through this author’s books. I LOVE the way she writes- the way I think and feel.
This is the fourth of hers I’ve read. This one had a more predictable plot and ending than the others I’ve read though still very entertaining. I laughed out loud a few times and love that!

I loved this book and to another person who commented here that she didn't get what she expected of a romance, I must admit, I would not rate this book as a romance, but more a drama of differences in people's lives, however complex, but their highly recognizable traits, whether good or bad, that we all have in us. So, although I laughed out loud at some of the humour, the book is to be highly recommended for it's kitchen sink, down to earth drama, which I myself relate to, and I'm sure most others do too. I like very much the truth written here, as told by each individual person, just like a chat I would have with a good friend or close member of my family.

Did not rate this book as I only read a few chapters and decided it was not a book I was interested in reading.

This was a DNF for me... I found both sisters to be self-absorbed (particularly Ainsley) and unlikeable. I also found some of the other characters to be annoying - everyone’s perspective seemed to hold everyone else in contempt. Romance is escapism; why would anyone want to escape from their own daily issues into listening to characters bemoan how unfair life is?

I’ve read this author in the past, so I had hoped for a good read but I’m turned off enough that I won’t bother with her other books.

I have not read Kristan Higgins in a long while and was happy when this audio hold came in. This book is about two sisters who find themselves going through upheaval at the exact same moment. I loved that the audio had two narrators so it was easy to tell which sister was speaking. The two narrators were very different. I liked the one that narrated Ainsley's part as it was just like her upbeat and easy to listen to. The narrator for Kate was a bit too dramatic, which is unlike Kate. The story was realistic with a contemporary-romance flair (ie: HEA) and that is why I read them :)

Great story about families, love lost and love found. I liked the characters (with the exception of Eric) and wanted to know about their stories and where their lives ended. Good read.

Love this author. I've read most of her books. Good story line, kept me reading. Although I enjoyed it, I have to agree with previous comment about the switching back and forth between the sisters stories.
As always, humor, a dog, mixed with lots of emotion.

A friend who hosts the World's Best Book Club (it really is ~ check it out on Facebook) in New Zealand recommended Kristan Higgins. On Second Thought was first on my list.

Fabulous story about love and loss. Great characters. I laughed out loud several times and cried a bit too. Gram-Gram is a hoot.

The author's penchant for switching between Katie and Ainsley's stories with each chapter was annoying for me.
