This is an amazing collection of songs by Johnny Hodges, who was Duke Ellington's top alto sax player and who also had a solo career.
The sax playing is top-notch and there are also solos taken by various other instrumentalists that are also amazing; note the various mute effects used by the trumpeters and hear also some very lively clarinet on a couple of the songs and trombone as well.
This stuff is cream of the crop, and doesn't suffer from sounding too dated which is a problem sometimes with older jazz. The production values are also superb. Check it out!
