Green Mars --- by --- Kim Stanley Robinson
This one didn’t pass the 50 rule: if by page fifty the novel hasn’t yet hooked you, if the story, the situation or the characters still haven’t found traction, then the book might as well be consigned to the “might have been” shelf. I made an exception for this novel and read on. To page seventy five. Still nothing. So many books, so little time. Goodbye “Green Mars” Good-bye Kim.

Another magisterial entry in the expanding Mars saga. I recently described it to a cousin as having more thought-provoking scientific and social ideas per page than most entire books, a comment I repeat and stand by here. The only drawback is how it suffers from part-2-of-3-itis: one knows going in that nothing too definitive is likely to occur.
