Totally deserving of the Caldecott Gold Medal. Having lived near L.A. during the Watts Riots, I felt this book speaks well to the hearts and minds of both young and adult from the perspective of someone living through that physical and emotional turmoil. It shows a peak into the rights and wrongs of both sides, and shines a light in the darkness.
