The recent film "Miles Ahead," starring and directed by Don Cheadle, delved into the weird end of the Miles pool, i.e., his work/life in the 70s. Even the casual jazz fan probably owns something by Davis ("Kind of Blue" most likely.), but for the more adventurous listener, his 70s stuff is, well out, there. Released in 1974, "Get Up With It" draws from a number of sessions, including those for "Jack Johnson" and "On the Corner." It's a double album including 2 songs that clock in at over 30 minutes, and it was also his last album before he took a break from recording. It's an album that doesn't fry your brain like "Bitches Brew," but one that you kind of let wash over you. It's electric jazz, it's vaguely psychedelic (I was reminded a few times of "Electric Ladyland."), it's spacey, it's "worldbeat fusion" as one critic called it. It's Miles Davis. Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, and Michael Henderson are among the featured musicians.
