The marriage of two strong-minded people provides the spark for a comic confrontation between the sexes: The "shrew," Katharina, is so ill-tempered she seems unlikely to find a husband. Her father refuses to let her younger sister marry until Katherina is off his hands. Petruchio appears, marries Katharina, and "tames" her so well that he wins a bet with two other men on a test of their wives' obedience.

John Cleese plays a magnificent Petruchio -- the rest of the cast is ok. But, of course, the joy of the words is the main reason to watch.

I am not a fan of the content of this play, but it was very well played (except for Lucentio who doesn't seem to get the sense of the lines but just spits them out as quick as he can.) John Cleese is wonderful and you have no trouble whatsoever in understanding the meaning of his words. Kat is portrayed as quite violent in temper and actions, so the changes in her behavior are very marked. The sets are a bit spare, but the acting makes up for it.
