One of the more famous literary openings - for good reason.

As cold as death,
Never thirsty, ever drinking,
All in mail, never clinking. - Gollum/Smeagol

"Blunt the knives, bend the forks,
Smash the bottles and burn the corks!
Chip the glasses and crack the plates,
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates!"
(Movie Quote, but I love the book and the movie all the same)

Notices
Add NoticesOther: How could anyone say that this book is a waste of time?!?!?! I've never regretted reading a Tolkien book! Not only is The Hobbit great, but so are all of the other books by Tolkien! If you liked The Hobbit you MUST read Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion!

Add a CommentWe all love the coziness of home but what would you do if the adventure of a lifetime came knocking? Would you answer the door? Bilbo did and his tale will forever be remembered as one of the greatest stories ever written.
The Hobbit takes the reader on an unforgettable adventure through the land of Middle Earth. An excellent cast of characters, plot and adventure coupled with a great attention to detail make this one of the classics that must be read by all who enjoy literature.
Possibly the greatest book in the whole world. A must read.
So much fun to read a story of an unadventurous introvert being brought along on an adventure with fun and loveably odd characters to epic lands on a tremendous adventure. You come to love every moment of the story as much as the main character eventually does.
Bilbo Baggins is a lovable curmudgeon if I've ever seen one. It was an honor to travel with him as he faced his anxiety, pushed through his mountains of reluctance, and found out how green the grass really was on the other side.
Classic book- a great and thrilling read!
this was one of the best books of all time and i read it once a year. when i first read it i liked it so much i read it three times. if you have not read it you have to read it at least
once!
This is an awesome book! Tolkien's writing makes the string very easy to visualize.
It is really good book to read. I am big fan of Lord of the rings and the hobbit movies and wanted to read books. This is really great story. The only thing i didn't like in this particular copy is the text. It is not really good font or the spacing is bad but as far as story goes it is as awesome as the movies.
absolutely wonderful
