"You are now entering Ruby Holler, the one and only Ruby Holler! Your lives are never going to be the same—"

"Trouble twins" Dallas and Florida are orphans who have given up believing there is such a thing as a loving home. Tiller and Sairy are an eccentric older couple who live in the beautiful, mysterious Ruby Holler, but they’re restless for one more big adventure. When they invite the twins to join them on their journeys, they first must all stay together in the Holler, and the magic of the place takes over. Two pairs of lives grow closer and are changed forever.

Ruby Holler is a very nice and adaptable story that eventually grows on you. Florida and Dallas are the powerhouse twins of my book collection because there are so many layers and depths that go into their characters and personalities. I think this story makes you think twice about every sentence and the plotline is rather nicely portrayed. Ruby Holler tells the story of the trouble twins, Florida and Dallas, who have been at the Boston Creek foster home longer than all of the children there. They’ve been adopted, yes, but always returned and labelled as bad kids. But Florida and Dallas are determined and confident that it is always the parents that are the problems. But an opportunity emerges that the greedy owners of the Boston Creek Home, Mr. and Mrs. Trepid, can’t ignore. Sandy and Tiller are willing to take Florida and Dallas on trips to separate vacation spots. But nothing is as it seems in the place of “lunatics” (according to the outspoken Florida) Ruby Holler, and understone funds and the midnight train lead everyone wondering what will be next in the “magical” (according to daydreamer Dallas) lives of the twins that were named after booklets in the boxes left outside the Boston Home. He could do that sometimes, make himself dream about a certain thing. Usually he tried to do it when he had a problem, in hopes that the dream would help him sort it out.

Maybe it was good that Dallas was dreamy, she thought, because whenever she was feeling as if everything was dark and scary and putrid, Dallas would paint word pictures that would fly into her mind and scatter the dark and scary things.
