Igby Slocumb, a rebellious and sarcastic seventeen-year-old boy, is at war with the stifling world of 'old money' privilege he was born into. With a schizophrenic father, a self-absorbed, distant mother, and a shark-like Young Republican big brother, Igby figures there must be a better life out there -- and sets about finding it.

Thanks, nMat, I hadn't seen this film but due to your comments, I definitely plan to.

An unsung, largely unheralded masterpiece. Kicky dialogue ("What kind of a name is Igby?" "The kind that no one named Sookie is in a position to question.") and an affectionate yet unsentimental portrait of Boheme marginalia on the skids. And one of the best Susan Sarandon performances ever -- this & "Atlantic City" were her peak.
