I liked Ms. Carlile's voice when she sang in the lower registers, but disliked the jumps to higher octaves. These sometimes sound like half a yodel and at other times jumps to only an approximation of the desired note - going from low to high notes needs to be a clear reach to the high, not a faltering search for the correct sound. This affectation ruined the tracks for me. Kristi & Abby Tabby

This was Brandi Carlile’s debut in 2005 at 25 years old. Relative to her latest fifth album “By the Way, I Forgive You”, a bit less polished with melancholy ballads delivered with a moody lazy but dynamic vocal. A very good for a new comer back then. Fav's are: "Follow", "What Can I Say", "Throw It All Away", "Someday Never Comes", "In My Own Eyes" and "Tragedy." The rest ain't bad ... just not my tunes.

An strong debut, showcasing Carlile's biggest strength - her voice.
