Gathering direct quotes from some of these folks who worked behind the scenes, and culling NASA transcripts, national archives, and stunning photos from Apollo 11, the author captures not only the sheer magnitude of this feat but also the dedication, ingenuity, and perseverance of the massive team that worked to first put man on that great gray rock in the sky"--Back cover.

One of the best juvenile books on the Apollo space program. Written in a mature fashion, both adults and children can learn fascinating behind the scenes heroes that made the Apollo 11 landing a success.

In 1969, the U.S. landed two men on the moon, but it took 400,000 people eight years to do all the planning and preparation. In telling the story of Apollo 11, Thimmesh includes interviews with some of those people as well as numerous photographs.
