This is a top-flight women’s movie ('chick-flick' being too pejorative) in that it probes into the lives and troubles of a few women, and since it's made and written and directed, etc., by a group of women. Yet it’s well worth anyone's while. Not plot-driven but a characters' flick. It is mercifully not strident about men's thoughtlessness, brutish insensitivity, etc. The plight of its women include at least two who are victimized by men - though not qua men, refreshingly, and the gender is not despised as a result. What I most like in movies is the unusual, and this is rich in just that. The narratives follow these women through some difficulties and successes, including a brief foray visiting the US to sort things out with a sibling. In one or two scenes it verges close to soap opera, but there's plenty to save it from such dreariness, and lots to hold one's attention. Good acting and script, the art direction is especially notable. Again, expect a well-crafted, atypical take on perennial human issues. Recommended.
