The mystery part was good. The negro played as a comic character was racially offensive and appalling

This is not my favorite Chan, but Warner Oland is always a pleasure to watch in the skin of the immensely popular Chinese (Hawaiian) detective from Earl Derr Biggers. (Although Biggers wrote only wrote six books, but none in Egypt. He died in 1933, two years prior to this movie.) Stepin Fetchit is absolutely fantastic as Snowshoes. Observe how his lazy speech changes dramatically when he is trying to woo his Egyptian girlfriend; what a great comedian! And keep an eye for Rita Hayworth, then the chubby brunette Rita Casino.

"Charlie Chan in Egypt", 1935, a Fox production without the famous spotlights and crescendo music. And Charlie does not have any mention of son number anything. Warner Oland is very good as the world's newest and best rival to Sherlock Holmes. The story line is good. Egypt with its ancient Pyramids hiding the treasures of the Pharaohs captivates our attention. People will murder each other for money.
