From Library Staff

Their second studio album released in July 1973.
Although it was a critical success, it took a few years for it to catch on commercially. It's also the record where they really became the cold-blooded studio rock band that would be their legacy.

Released in July 1973 - "Countdown To Ecstasy" would be the second studio album by the New York-based, American rock band, Steely Dan. Although it was a critical success, the album failed to generate a hit single, and consequently charted in at only #35 on Billboard's top 200.

With most of the songs showing a significant leaning towards a distinct jazz influence - Countdown To Ecstasy's lyrics explore a number of familiar topics such as drug abuse, class envy, and West Coast excess.

All 8 tracks were a songwriting collaboration between Steely Dan's bassist/backing vocals, Walter Becker, and keyboardist/lead vocals, Donald Fagen.

My favorite Steely Dan album, and I'm rather fond of all the Steely Dan albums I've heard so far. 'Bodhisattva', 'Your gold teeth', 'King of the world' are my favorites.
