Testimony
Large Print - 2008
At a New England boarding school, a sex scandal is about to break. Even more shocking than the sexual acts themselves is the fact that they were caught on videotape. A Pandora's box of revelations, the tape triggers a chorus of voices--those of the men, women, teenagers, and parents involved in the scandal--that details the ways in which lives can be derailed or destroyed in one foolish moment.

Add a CommentThis book is written with multiple student, teacher, and parent narratives, and the impact of a scandal on the community. While I must warn prospective readers that the opening chapter of this book is quite graphic in describing the contents of the videotape, the rest of the story plays out well and you get drawn in and attached to different characters. Flawless writing and well-drawn characters. I literally could not put this book down, I was so intrigued to delve into the minds of each character and see how the scandal had affected each of them differently. I was also drawn to the truth about the scandal and kept reading to find out what really happened. (submitted by EM)
I found this book to be quite poignant, in relation to the Kavanaugh hearing going on now. I'm glad I finished it, although it wasn't until about 1/3 of the way through before I became interested in the outcome.
Three star basketball players and a freshman girl create a student sex scandal at a private Vermont academy. Told from the perspective of the students, the parents, the school administrator and bystanders, lives unravel as the story unfolds. There are no "bad guys" but many victims as lives veer in directions they were never meant to go. — Mary B., Ridgedale Library
A novel with some mystery and teens as they grow up. A very good novel.
Analysis of an emotional disaster that arises from a moment of teenage sexual experimentation. Great narrative skillfully written from multiple perspectives.
Anita Shreve has a remarkable ability to reveal the thoughts of her characters. I was nodding my head in agreement as she styled the thoughts of each character. I found the story realistic and heart wrenching. I loved it as I have loved her other works.
A profoundly sad story. Excellently written from the viewpoint of various characters.
A compelling novel that speaks to contemporary moral issues and the way Internet technology affects situations which in the past stayed local.
I've read it twice and recommned it highly.
Excellent writing and the subject matter is very relevant. I do wish that the character of the girl involved had been a little more fleshed out.
Not a fun read, but a good one.
Although this book has an interesting subject matter and the manner it is written (each chapter is a different person's perspective) is intriquing, the story itself left me feeling sad, almost to the point of wishing I hadn't read it! But the situation is realistic even if it is a sad story. I couldn't put the book down because I was so anxious for what was going to be revealed next! So, since that is a good indicator of a book's worth, I would recommend it. But be prepared for an unhappy ending...
