Kyle McAvoy grew up in his father's small-town law office in York, Pennsylvania. He excelled in college, was elected editor-in-chief of The Yale Law Journal, and his future has limitless potential. But Kyle has a secret, a dark one, an episode from college that he has tried to forget. The secret, though, falls into the hands of the wrong people, and Kyle is forced to take a job he doesn't want-- even though it's a job most law students can only dream about. Three months after leaving Yale, Kyle becomes an associate at the largest law firm in the world, where, in addition to practicing law, he is expected to lie, steal, and take part in a scheme that could send him to prison, if not get him killed.

Good story, at first, but it's tough to root for the protagonist, as he's a bit of a d0uche. Then it meanders and gives you sub-plots that go nowhere, and seems utterly predictable. But it has you thinking, "Gee, what's going to happen?" Spoiler alert - NOTHING. As others have said here, the ending absolutely makes you wonder why you wasted your time. A stay-away, for sure. It feels like the book Grisham wrote his freshman year of high school.

Also, the book is hampered by the TERRRIBLE narrator for this audio version, wow, what a stinker!

This was a re-read for me and I found it as unsatisfying this time as I did the first time I read it. Grisham can definitely write and that's probably why I found the ending of this book so disappointing. However, overall, the book is not bad, it keeps you reading to see what will happen

This story lacked a decent ending and consequently leaves an empty taste. Nowhere near the effort of his best works. 4 of 10 stars
