And when, twenty-five years later, Val shows up at Addie's door with blood on her coat and terror on her face, it's the beginning of a wild adventure for two women joined by love and history who are able to find strength together that they could not find alone.

Baker & Taylor
Addie Downs and Valerie Adler were close until a betrayal during their teen years drove them apart; but twenty years later, a terrified Val shows up on Addie's doorstep wearing a bloody coat, pushing them both into a wild adventure where they must rely on one another again.

I loved this chick lit! If you are in need of something light & easy to read before bed or on a rainy afternoon, grab this one. A story about friendship between young girls, Addie and Valerie, both so different that losing their relationship in adult life was evident. However, revenge for the past teenage heartache and breakups reunite these two, making them even closer than ever. A guaranteed laugh and cry! (submitted by IM)

A nice, funny read. Sort of like a Themla and Louise but funny. I enjoyed this quick read and would recommend it.

A very moving story about the trials of young girls as they grow up. A good read with a happy ending, which I love!

great read although some of the characters were not seen through to the end properly,( Dan and Mrs Adler) I had great compassion for the character Addie, although the bank scene was pretty silly

Exceeded expectations. The book jumps back and forth between present day and adolescent.

I picked up this Jennifer Weiner book because I wanted a fun escape, and thought I'd have sympathy for the main character, Addie Downs. My problem was that I had too much sympathy, for this book had every issue I've ever had: weight, best friends gone bad, insecurity, infertility, an overwhelming sense of loyalty, escaping the law... okay, maybe I haven't had that last one. Anyway, I don't think I am being objective when I say it felt like it dragged a little in the beginning, because I just didn't want the reminders. In truth, like all the Weiner books I've read, it was well thought-out and constructed. There was only one part with Dan Swansea that I felt was a little "deux ex machina" (figuratively, not exactly that device) where I had to swallow my disbelief a little. Everything else was realistic given the circumstances and completely sympathetic. I could easily feel like I was there (I think I was, once!). I think Weiner wonderfully captured a truth about female friendships (and possibly male): if you've love somebody enough, they always seem to fit right back into your life despite time and circumstance. Yes, light and predictable but Weiner never lets the expected become an excuse for bad writing or ill-constructed paths there. Not here.
