Essentially an introduction for older children to the concept of a dramedy (a comedy with drama, or vica versa). A story that will have you laughing and crying in parts. Not a story for sensitive readers, and definitely darker in nature than the author's now-defunct "Bloom County" comic strip.

Wow. For what is esentially a children's book, I can't believe how dark it is. It took me a bit of thinking to realize that children are too young to be able to comprehend this darkness. I book written for adults as well as kids. If you loved his comic strips, you'll also love this book. You can definately tell it comes from the same heart.

Remarkable book. Very funny but also touchingly sad. Totally preposterous but convincing. Perfect balance between amorphasizing(sp??) dogs and respecting their real nature...

This author is able to take a sensitive subject, differing abilities, and make it accessible for a younger audience. This book is great to start conversations with your children about empathy with a fun setting.

He looked around the room. He'd heard a yip. He knew a yip when he heard one, and it wasn't a stupid yard mole. He ate them all the time and they never yipped. Unless, he thought, you started at the tail and went veeeery slow.

There are exactly four words that are genetically guaranteed to turn a gaggle of pampered lapdogs into a mob of killers. "Federal. Express. Guy." are three. The fourth is the word Sam now said. "Gopher."
