The House Of The Scorpion (2002) - Teenage rated, one of my first and very favourite books; I have now read it five times. This was the book that got me into reading way back in Grade 8, April 2010. I went on to read all of Nancy Farmer's books and those of over 100 different authors. By December 2014, I had read over 550 books and counting. After you read this book, read the sequel 'The Lord of Opium' (2013); you will not be disappointed. Doctor-at-Bass! Taylor A.

"I'll tell you this: El Patrón has his good side and his bad side. Very dark indeed is his majesty when he wants to be. When he was young, he made a choice, like a tree does when it decides to grow one way or the other. He grew large and green until he shadowed over the whole forest, but most of his branches are twisted."

The story is about a young clone named Matt who grows up in a Dystopian world under the control of a drug lord. Oh, and this drug lord happens to be the man from whom he was cloned. As it turns out, this guy, called El Patrón, cloned our protagonist so that he might harvest Matt's organs to keep himself alive later in life.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: The House of the Scorpion is a dark, twisted, but ultimately hopeful story.
