When Anne Deveraux finds her bandleader husband Dan in bed with another woman, she packs her bags, empties the cash drawer, buys a baby blue Cadillac convertible and begins a cross-country trek with her sons. From Boston to Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Albuquerque and finally Hollywood, her search for a new life continues to turn up short. But the richness of coming to really know her sons -- Robbie, who dreams of a life on stage, and George, a cynical, would-be writer who hopes this journey will lead back home (and soon!) -- makes their harrowing adventure on America's highways among the most worthwhile undertakings of their lives. I really enjoy Renee Zellweger's performances and the way she looks! She got my attention from the start and I liked the other characters too. The story is good: I didn't know it was based on George Hamilton's life until I read the comments here. I would like to give this ten stars! **********

This is a really moving and inspiring movie. It did a excellent job of recreating the 1950s. From the building to the wardrobe and the behaviors, it just feels like the past. Moreover, the movie not only emphasizes the relationship between man and woman but also the bond between mother and son as well as father and son.

A so-so film.

Supposedly, this is a road movie about a time when the actor, George Hamilton, was a teenager. His mom leaves her husband who is caught philandering with another woman. She leaves with her two sons and sets off to try to find a new father for her two sons. She gets involved with all kinds of men, but they all have one trait. They are not good for her and her sons. Kind of a light dramedy - kind of like George Hamilton - actor - lite.

Logan Lerman is absolutely sparkling and charming in this film.

Despite a good cast this movie was dull from start to finish. Apparently a snapshot of George Hamilton's life with his eventual stardom in movies and show business. George, his gay brother and mother leave New York City on a road trip across America. Along the way they stop in various cities as Ann (George's mother) tries to find a new husband. Eventually the trio arrives in Hollywood and thankfully the saga ends.

A good premise with a somewhat interesting plot however the dull pace and poor acting on many accounts left this film quite dry.

Above all, this tender drama about a newly single mother & her two teenage sons demonstrates beyond a shadow of a doubt that Renée Zellweger was born to wear retro. In scene after scene she appears in fabulous 50s-period make-up, hairstyles, accessories, & costumes--right down to the lingerie—all offset by wonderful lighting & camera work. But in addition--at risk of sounding catty, & although I know Zellweger’s acting technique sometimes entails exaggerated facial contortions--I thought at times her face looked downright grotesque in this film—for example, in her final scene with Kevin Bacon. Is it just me, or have some of her recent cosmetic enhancements gone sadly awry?

Fair – My One and Only (2009) 108 min. The film does sport great production values but is mired in a not too compelling story. The story is basically about actor George Hamilton’s mother (played by Renee Zellweger) and how he influenced him during his younger years. I found myself looking at my watch through this one.
