The Stoning of Soraya M. is based on a true story.
Soroya is the mother of four children, and is a well-known figure in the community. Her husband, Ali, works at a prison.
Ali is interested in marrying the 14-year-old daughter of a wealthy inmate who is due to be executed. Ali has agreed to help the inmate in exchange for his daughter's hand in marriage, but first Soroya must grant Ali a divorce.
Soroya refuses, and Ali, intent on marrying the young girl, stops at nothing to get become free of Soroya.
In this Persian movie about life in Afghanistan, a woman must try to save the females in her family only to have her husband betray her by "accusation" over "truth" just because he wants a new and younger model and the laws of the land (made and perpetuated by men) allow him to carry on that way.
