I have not seen the original 1941 movie, and after seeing parts of it I don't intend to, but I truly like this movie. Even though it is predictable, and the effects are a bit laughable, but for some odd reason, this is the perfect inconsistency. I just LOVE the gloomy, dreary atmosphere, the dark shadows, and the cast is fun. Yes, Benicio del Toro can't raise his voice to save his life, but he just looks so darn sad, which makes me feel for him when he is bitten. Anthony Hopkins is above this material, but you can tell he is having a friggin ball with this film, he can't stop smiling. Also, Emily Blunt. Enough said. I highly recommend you watch the extended cut, but be careful because this copy is scratched about fifty minutes in.

I enjoyed this version very much. I found it satisfying in every respect. I can only suppose that it's not being better known is due to the competition in the theaters that year including The King's Speech, Inception, Toy Story 3, True Grit and others. Well worth a viewing whether you're a fan of the genre or not

Kinda fun: lotsa bitin' and fightin'; transformation and reformation, and redemption.

I appreciated the eerie beauty of the cinematography. But "The Wolfman" was otherwise a lackluster story.

To his credit director Joe Johnston does try very hard to elicit the gothic chills of the 1941 classic (or all those wonderfully bad Hammer Horror spinoffs); his 19th century English moors are appropriately misty, the decaying family estate suitably bedecked in cobwebs and the local gypsies straight out of a comic book. Rarely has a full moon been imbued with such bright shiny malevolence. But it quickly gets bogged down under the weight of its own sense of grandeur as Johnston overindulges in shadowy lighting and smoke machines. The awkward dialogue, clearly meant to establish a dark and brooding atmosphere, is delivered without passion by a cast who seem uncomfortable with their characters, especially the village full of stock yokels. The CGI effects are about what you'd expect although the gore is a bit tame for my tastes, and the monster itself is passable if not exactly horrifying (personally I've always found werewolves to be rather sexy...must be the hair). The film's ending, in which we're threatened with a sequel, will have you reaching for a silver bullet.

Good production values, some good acting, but the story is weak, predictable, and unrewarding.

I understand this got a bit of a bad rap since it's release, however I found it a fitting tribute to the original Universal film. Loved the makeup which made for an effective Wolfman. The sets are spectacular and kept with the authenticity of the story. Not to mention you have Anthony Hopkins as Larry Talbot's father, and what you end up with, is a movie that if you are an old time movie affectionado, you'll get the most of.

Love Benicio Del Toro, so i knew i was going to enjoy this. Of all the monster themes, the wolfman was never my favorite but this one was wonderfully done. Acting was great and story well thought.Want a fun monster movie for the weekend? Get this.
