Harrison, co-star of the Sundance feature film The Linguists and National Geographic Society fellow, travels the globe recording dying languages and interviewing last speakers. He chronicles his journeys to "language hotspots," (areas with great linguistic variety, much of which is endangered) in Australia, India, Papua New Guinea and Bolivia, in a personal narrative style, weaving methodology and linguistic theory with compelling arguments for the power of language and necessity of preserving its diversity. Includes a small selection of color photographs and a glossary. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
