This is the remarkable story of one endearing dog's search for his purpose over the course of several lives. More than just another charming dog story, this touches on the universal quest for an answer to life's most basic question: Why are we here? Surprised to find himself reborn as a rambunctious golden haired puppy after a tragically short life as a stray mutt, Bailey's search for his new life's meaning leads him into the loving arms of 8 year old Ethan. During their countless adventures Bailey joyously discovers how to be a good dog. But this life as a beloved family pet is not the end of Bailey's journey. Reborn as a puppy yet again, Bailey wonders, will he ever find his purpose? Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh out loud funny, this book is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog's many lives, but also a dog's eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man's best friend. This story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.

As a dog lover, I wanted to love this book also. However, the inconsistencies got in the way for me. Sometimes, the dog's vocabulary and insights are very complex, while at other times, they are more on the level of, well, a dog which, perhaps, the author felt kept it believable. If the book had been written all on this level I suppose it might have been too simplistic, but I found the swings to be very distracting at best. The author did tug on my heartstrings more than once, however, given the subject matter, that is not hard to do in my case.

Nice story and the main character, the dog. But if you cry easily and have a soft spot for animals you might need to read it with a box of tissues handy. I’m not a crier and this got to me three times for sure and on the edge for a fourth. I am still glad I read it. Enjoyed the reader.

Well-read but full of cliches: the crazy dog lady, a boy and his dog, etc.

If you love dogs you will LOVE this book! ~ Sarah

Great audiobook for dog lovers. Be prepared for lots of chuckles and a few tears. A lovely read that appears to get right into a dog's mind,

If you love dogs, you'll appreciate them even more after listening to this! If you've been wanting to get a dog and haven't yet, this will inspire you to visit the pound. The reader is terrific, sounding the way a dog might sound if it could talk: friendly, accepting and undemanding. Lovely!
