Louis L'Amour's ability to tell a great story certainly does not depend on it being a Western. His stories taking place in other parts of the world are exciting and educational. The Walking Drum is a good example of a story telling of events that could have happened by a hero who traveled all through southern Europe, from Spain to Constantinople.
