Can I just say that Sammy is a cutie? A gentle, loveable cutie?! Going to add that the illustrations are so fitting for the gentle tone of this story, soothing and guiding us along Sammy's journey through its bold and soft colours, its texture and dimension. Humans travel. So do animals. Sometimes not only do we need a reminder, we need to bereintroduced (or introduced!) to the vivacity and detail of their travels. (Or what we more commonly call "migration". They may very well travel for holidays and good for them for doing so! Hope we learn about their favourites when science figures out how to reach the frontier of their vacay preferences). What we know of migration is vividly captured in this story about a Wilson warbler named Sammy. As tenderly young as he is, feeling the prickly frost of home (the Arctic Circle), he know this means he needs to get up and get migrating to ... Panama! But how does he get there all on his own? He can't see another warbler anywhere. So starts his journey. Along the way he travels with a ptarmigan, with cranes, whales, darner dragonflies and more. He travels marshes, islands, forests, lakes, and cities. He even gets to make a stop over in the Bahamas! While a wee little bird, he is big for his determination, strength, and more determination. Join him for a journey over two weeks. You'll fall in love with him and wonder at the tales animals have of their migrations. If only they could speak human, imagine their stories!
