I enjoyed Gerritsen's previous novel, The Surgeon, but it wasn't at all as heart racing or addicting as The Apprentice. Once I had gotten a good thirty or fourty pages in I couldn't put it down. The reason I liked The Surgeon was because it made you think, but the Apprentice does all of that and more. Very well written, and planned out. Sometimes I feel like when reading a mystery that at the end when you discover the perp there wasn't enough information for you to have even guessed who it was, and I find that irritating and gives the writter a lazy-like personna for not giving you a solvable mystery book, but Gerritsen; thankfully; doesn't do that. I did feel that when ever there was a corpse in sight Gerritsen seemed to give the same description of the bloated belly and portruding veins, it seemed kind of repetitive and I found myself skipping a few sentences whenever I saw the word bloated. Good book though. Recommended.
