As translator John Ciardi suggests, attempting to literally translate poetry between languages is a fool's errand. Especially from Dante's distinctive cadences set in 14th C. vernacular Tuscan/Italian. Instead, Ciardi labored, quite successfully, to convey Dante's intent in a readable poetic form, nearly all of which is also rendered in tercets. If you have struggled with other translations of the Commedia, give this one a shot. You might find it enchanting.
