I was not expecting too much of this film and was pleasantly surprised. On the downside the dialogue is often wooden and the acting is old-fashioned. However, it is a great story of love, political intrigue and war, and it is greater still for being real history, treated respectfully, for the most part. The set designs are for the time wonderful. There are little touches of local colour that encourage the belief in the truth of the scene, such as the seeking of omens and the means of passing from one ship to another. By the end of the film, I was very much caught up in the personality of this famous Egyptian queen.
