An inside look at the early days of Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, as told by the public servants it targeted and one of America's best storytellers.
Examines the early years of the second Trump administration through the experiences of federal employees whose work brought them into conflict with the Department of Government Efficiency. Lewis profiles public servants responsible for such tasks as protecting sensitive tax information, enforcing government rules, reducing wildfire risks, and supporting medical research, exploring their work, their encounters with efforts to restructure the federal government, and the broader role of career civil servants in American government.
