A return to one's home and family can always be a troubling situation. It certainly is for the main character Kieran Elliot in Jane Harper's mystery The Survivors. Wonderfully set in a small town on Tasmania off the coast of Australia, Kieran must revisit his brother's death, which still has very mysterious aspects to it. Harper excels in bringing the coastal geography of Tasmania to vivid life. And, the rocky Tasmanian cliffs might help Kieran to resolve some long-standing mysteries in his life.A return to one's home and family can always be a troubling situation. As the representative from Maryland's eighth Congressional district, Jamie Raskin was, incredibly, a direct witness to two major events in American history in the first months of 2021. He was serving Maryland as a congressman when the Capitol was viciously attacked on January 6, 2021 by a violent crowd of protestors. Then, he led the Democratic party's impeachment effort against President Trump. Overshadowing these actions was the suicide of his son Tommy on December 31, 2020. Unthinkable is an unbelievably eloquent and moving account by Raskin of those dramatic days.As the representative from Maryland's eighth Congressional district, Jamie Raskin was, incredibly, a direct witness to two major events in American history in the first months of 2021. Dana Canedy, a New York Times ace editor and reporter, wrote this emotionally-charged account of her life with her husband Charles King. He joined the armed forces and was stationed in Iraq, where he was tragically killed. The book is very-moving account of their lives together in their courtship and eventual marriage. Dana gave birth to their son Jordan while Charles was in Iraq. There are two journals in this book. Dana keeps one for herself to record her life as a professional woman and mother to a son whose father was serving in Iraq. Charles, at Dana's suggestion, writes in his journal of his life serving in Iraq as well as his hopes and dreams for himself as a father and leader of his company of soldiers. Notable sections of his journal also are first-hand accounts of the Iraqi war. Together, these journals give the reader an inspirational story of a family enduring tremendous obstacles. Dana and her son Jordan survive the challenges of losing her husband and his father. This book is the basis for a recently-released movie.Dana Canedy, a New York Times ace editor and reporter, wrote this emotionally-charged account of her life with her husband Charles King. Getting his start is the golden days of early television in New York, he began to hone his skills as a comedy writer. That eventually led to directing movies and even acting in them. He includes portions from classic scripts such as Two Thousand Year Old Man and his skit The Jewish Pirate. On his personal note, he writes so glowingly of the love of his life, Anne Bancroft.
